The Gift of Silence

Listen. Isn't it nice? Sometimes the yammering and hammering on the keyboard should cease. The empty spaces leave room for more to grow.

  1. Totally unrelated and shallow in comparison... but on the way home today after church, all three of the kids were eating donuts. The sound of their "silence" was amazing and so very worth listening to.

  2. Dang, even your "silences" are brilliant.

  3. I often ride to/from work in silence. It allows me to be alone with my thoughts, work things out without distraction. I also use to look forward to my daily 45 minute walks with my late furbaby, Midnite. Ending the day by not speaking and just focusing on him was the perfect work to home transition.

  4. One of my all time favorite songs. My Mom, a young hippie, indoctrinated me with Simon & Garfunkel at an early age. We once had cats by those two names.

As for the gift of silence, I wholeheartedly agree. Talking is no good without having willing listeners.

  5. How very true. Silence is golden around here- rare and oft- coveted. This is one of my favourite songs ever- and the first sheet music I ever bought. Thanks for this post!

  6. How can I like this without breaking the silence?

  7. @Nicole - So not shallow with 3 kids in the back of the car. Take it where you can get it.
@Masked Mom - you are too, too kind.
@MauiShopGirl - Hello and welcome! Thanks for stopping by! Silence is essential, I agree. There was a time in my life when I couldn't stand silence. Now I crave it.
@Green Goose - I cut my musical teeth on Simon & Garfunkel and the like, too!
@cdnkaro - It's pretty rare around here, too. Makes me appreciate it all the more.
@Jane - Funny girl. I was thinking the same thing when I was posting it. Technically, not silent. Close enough, though. Thanks for liking it.
@M-Half - Why, thank you. Stay tuned, BTW, two posts coming soon dedicated to you. You'll have to decide which. Ha ha ha ha.
